Abstract
With the development of China's economy and the continuous enhancement of its comprehensive national strength, countries around the world have developed a strong interest in China and its culture. Against this backdrop, the translation of political texts has increasingly become one of the methods for the international community to know China. Grounded in André Lefevere's Manipulation Theory, this paper examines the C-E translation of the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, analyzing translation practices from three dimensions: ideology, poetics and patronage. By summarizing translation strategies including literal translation, free translation, amplification and division, this paper concludes that translators of political texts should give full play to their subjective initiative, adhere to the principle of safeguarding national interests, and convey the information and cultural connotations of the source text faithfully and accurately. On the basis of case analysis, this paper also discusses research limitations and proposes prospects for future studies, with a view to improving the international communication effect of political text translation.
