Journal: Journal of Clinical Medicine Research DOI: 10.32629/jcmr.v6i3.4440
Abstract
Purpose: This systematic review investigates the relationship between social isolation or loneliness with unhealthy behaviour among the chronic disease population and older adults who are potential to develop chronic disease. Methods: A comprehensive search is conducted using 4 electronic databases, including PubMed, PsycINFO, Medline and Scopus, for studies published from 2000 to the present. Result: In all, total 23 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. More than half of the studies have observed an increasing trend in the level of smoking and alcohol rate among this population. Conclusion: Social isolation and loneliness, are negatively associated with unhealthy behaviours among those with chronic diseases and older adults.
