Abstract

As the core element of classroom interaction, teacher's talk plays an extremely vital role in that it contains numerous question and evaluation turns. It's through the question-answer-evaluation sequence that the teacher raises different class topics, tests the students, and gives further feedback. There are different ways for the teacher to raise questions and evaluate the students' answers. Consequently, this paper will analyze and classify various types of turn designs of question and evaluation in teacher's talk based on real classroom observation, thus shedding light on pedagogical and practical implications for teaching and learning.
